This was another one of many helpful recommendations by Michel Linker aka "mili1". It's one of those albums that need time to be tune in, but the invested time is well worth it. It's basically jazz with a couple of extensive improvisations, but there a many thoroughly composed and arranged secions, too. Some tracks are really breathtaking with their bold melodies, chords, and grooves. Some Latin flavor shines through sometimes, too.
Favorite track: February.
Mooroolbark was the 2015 winner of the ARIA Award for best jazz album. The album also won the 2015 Australian Independent Record Labels Association award for Best Jazz Album and the 2015 The Age Music Victoria award for Best Jazz Album.[3] At the 2016 Australian Jazz Bell Awards Mooroolbark also received the Best Jazz Album award and won the award for Best Song, "Nectar Spur."
“Mooroolbark” is the name given to my home town by the Wurundjeri people (“moorool” meaning great water and “bik” meaning place). They lived in the area, which is about 37 km east of Melbourne, for around 50,000 years before I arrived. The very last part of a 50,000 year time lapse would be sad to watch because so much environmental and spiritual damage would occur towards the very end. However, I decided to call this album Mooroolbark because, for many reasons Mooroolbark is why I play music.

I haven't heard anything as just completely perfectly formed out of the gate--every decision the right one, what to include but more what to exclude--maybe ever. Don't know who Sault is, but they do not sound like they could be anyone who hasn't paid some dues to get this good. Or signed some Satanic contracts. 100% confidence, and it sounds 110% earned.
